How the calculator decides eligibility

  1. It counts your exact age in completed years, months and days on the closing date.
  2. It adds any relaxation to the maximum age.
  3. You are eligible if you have reached the minimum age and have not reached your birthday after the upper limit.

Example: born on 15 March 2000, applying for a post with an upper limit of 25 years and a closing date of 12 October 2026. Age on the closing date is 26 years, 6 months and 27 days, which is over the limit. With 2 years of relaxation (limit 27 years), the candidate is eligible.

Typical age limits

Most government posts set limits between 18 and 25 to 35 years depending on the grade (BPS) and the department. CSS has an age limit of 21 to 30 years (with relaxations for some candidates). Always use the limits printed in the advertisement you are applying to.

Frequently asked questions

How is age calculated for government jobs?

Age is counted on the closing date of the application, or on another date stated in the advertisement. Your age is the number of completed years, months and days from your date of birth (as on your CNIC or matric certificate) to that date.

What does "maximum age 25 years" mean?

It is usually read as not having reached your 26th birthday on the closing date, so 25 years, 11 months and 29 days is still within the limit. Some advertisements state an exact rule, so always read the ad.

Who gets age relaxation?

Common relaxations in federal and provincial jobs include serving government employees, persons with disabilities, widows and children of deceased employees, and candidates from certain areas. The government has also announced general relaxations at times. The number of years differs by post and province, so enter the relaxation given in your job advertisement.

Which date of birth is used?

The date on your matriculation certificate (or CNIC) is normally treated as final for government jobs.
