How your TESCO bill is calculated
- Protected consumers pay slab by slab: the first 100 units at the first rate, the next 100 at the second.
- Unprotected consumers pay the rate of the slab they reach on every unit. That is why going from 200 to 201 units makes the bill jump.
- Fixed charges = rate per kW × sanctioned load, charged every month even if you use no units. Lifeline consumers pay no fixed charge but a minimum of Rs 75 a month (single-phase).
- Fuel price adjustment = FPA per unit × units (set monthly by NEPRA).
- GST of 18% is added on top of all of the above.
- Connections of 5 kW or more are billed on a time-of-use (peak/off-peak) tariff, which this calculator does not cover.

Frequently asked questions
Is the TESCO tariff different from other electricity companies?
No. Since the Government's uniform tariff, TESCO and every other distribution company, including K-Electric, charge residential consumers the same notified rates per unit and the same fixed charges. Bills differ only through monthly and quarterly adjustments and each household's own usage and sanctioned load.
What is a protected consumer?
A domestic consumer who has used 200 units or less in each of the last six months. Protected consumers pay much lower rates. If you cross 200 units in one month, that month is billed at unprotected rates, and you lose protected status for the next six months.
Why is my actual bill different from this estimate?
Your bill also includes the monthly fuel price adjustment (FPA), quarterly adjustments, and for some consumers income tax and arrears. Enter the FPA per unit from your last bill to get closer. Meter reading dates also shift the number of units.
What are fixed charges per kW?
Since February 2026, domestic consumers pay a monthly fixed charge for each kilowatt of sanctioned load printed on the bill. It ranges from Rs 200 to Rs 675 per kW depending on your category and units. Lifeline consumers pay no fixed charge but have a Rs 75 monthly minimum.
Are PTV fee and electricity duty still charged?
No. The Rs 35 PTV fee and provincial electricity duty were removed from electricity bills from July 2025.
How can I reduce my TESCO bill?
The biggest saving is staying at 200 units or less to remain protected. Inverter ACs, LED lights and avoiding peak hours help, and a rooftop solar system can cover most daytime use.
